Workflows
Find answers about Workflows, from setup to everyday use.
What can start a workflow?
Four things: you, a schedule, a webhook, or a message arriving in one of your mailboxes. The same graph runs the same way whichever one starts it.
What happens when a step fails?
The run stops there and keeps everything the earlier steps produced. From the run panel you see that step's inputs and its error, fix the cause and retry the step - the run continues from there.
Can the agent build one for me?
Yes. It has a workflow tool and can list, read, create, update, run and delete them. Creating or changing a workflow asks your permission, even in Auto mode.
Do workflows cost more than doing the work by hand?
No. The same steps cost the same credits as the agent doing them in a conversation. What a workflow adds is that it runs without you.
How should I test a workflow before enabling its trigger?
Run it manually with representative inputs, inspect each step, and confirm the expected result before relying on automatic starts.
What does it mean when a workflow run is waiting for input?
A step needs information before the run can continue; inspect the waiting step, provide the expected input, and resume the run.
How does data move from one workflow step to the next?
Connect steps in the graph and map the output of an earlier step to the input expected by the next one.
When should I use a condition or a switch in a workflow?
Use a condition for a yes-or-no decision and a switch when one value must select among several named paths.
What should I check before retrying a failed workflow step?
Review the failed step's error and inputs first, then retry that step only when its effects are safe to repeat.
How does a human approval step work in a workflow?
A human step pauses the run and waits for supplied input; resume it with the requested data when the decision is ready.
What happens when a workflow template value is missing?
A missing template value becomes an empty string and is recorded as a warning for that step; check the input and earlier outputs that should supply it.
Can I test one workflow step without changing an existing run?
Yes. Execute a single step with supplied context or input; this returns that step's result without modifying the saved run.
