Object Storage
Find answers about Object Storage, from setup to everyday use.
Do I have to create it?
No. It exists from the moment the account does, and it is already the default destination. That is also why a second one is refused rather than created: every plan carries one, and yours is it.
What counts against the space?
Everything we keep for you as objects: the files you save, what your mailboxes receive, what a host serves, the photos on your contacts. One number rather than four that run out separately.
Can I use my own bucket instead?
Yes. Connect an R2 or S3 bucket and the agent, the workflows and the SDK reach it through the same actions. The credentials are encrypted at rest and never leave the server - the agent sees prefixes and objects, not your keys.
What happens when it is full?
A write is refused rather than silently dropped, and an incoming message is deferred so the sender retries instead of losing it. Buy space by the gigabyte, or delete what you no longer need.
How should I use prefixes to organize objects in a bucket?
Group related objects under predictable prefixes, and check the prefix scope before a task lists, changes, or removes objects.
When should I use object storage instead of a database?
Use object storage for files and other complete objects; use a database when you need to query structured records and their fields.
Should I store a file in object storage or in a database?
Use object storage for file contents and a database for structured records and the metadata your application needs to find those files.
How do I choose stable object names when files can change?
Use an identifier that remains stable for the logical file, and decide explicitly whether a replacement overwrites that object or creates a new version.
What should I do when a database reference points to a missing object?
Check whether the object was renamed or removed, then repair the reference or restore the intended file; do not assume the database record proves the file still exists.
Can a workflow save generated content directly to object storage?
Yes. A workflow can preserve generated text or encoded file content in a configured storage connection, then pass the returned object key to later steps.
Does object storage create folders when I save a file?
Object storage usually identifies objects with keys that can contain path-like prefixes. A folder view may represent those keys rather than separate directories that must be created first.
How should I decide whether an object should be public or private?
Base access on who needs the object and what it contains. Keep sensitive or internal files restricted, and grant only the access required for the intended use.
